She recorded her first album in the same calendar year with Gold Band Records, a small independent label. Although she was studying, she established a name for herself on the local scene. Her goal was to to make music on a greater scale. She relocated to Nashville the day after graduating in 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her two first charting albums for Monument Records. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated television show host in the late '60s, was looking for a female singer for his program. Parton signed with RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She accepted her job in 1967. However she left Wagoner's show in 1974 as her solo releases such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene were out-charting their collaborations.
